[InKunming--Kunming]  In the morning of July 4, at 9 o'clock, Gideon Verwoerd, British medical expert sat in a clinic room. He, with Kunming colleagues, was asking a patient's illness, and recorded the illness's situations very carefully in a laptop.

From May 30 he arrived in Kunming, Gideon kept working for over 30 days, having not much time to be concerned about snacks, scenic spots, and urban environment of Kunming city.

"Each day Gideon comes to work at 8 o'clock in the morning, and leaves office always significantly later than normal closing time. " Miss Liu, an assistant interpreter to Gideon said.

Gideon Verwoerd, from British Bourn Hall Clinic, was a lead clinician in a field of IVF(In Vitro Fertilization) baby at that clinic. Taking up a job as a doctor over 20 years, Gideon received BBC's exclusive interview for one of his researches related to pregnant women's preeclampsia, having won extensive attention from a circle of gynaecology and obstetrics in Europe.

British Bourn Hall Clinic is a center that created the first test tube baby in the world. Robert Edwards, as a founder of the clinic, won Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 2010, due to his contribution to test tube babies.

Gideon Verwoerd, as an inheritor of the British Bourn Hall Clinic, with invitation of Kunming City Maternal and Child Health Hospital, came to the hospital, in Kunming, China, to help doctors of the hospital to improve reproductive technology and establish British Bourn Hall's advanced standard operating procedure management system and quality control system in the hospital.

"My job is to help couples who are unable to conceive naturally to have a family," Gideon said. Until June, 2016, Kunming City Maternal and Child Health Hospital still maintained a high success ratio of over 50% in fresh embryo transfer, higher than China's average transfer ratio, due to concerted efforts of Gideon, and his colleagues both from the U.K. and Kunming.

"I enjoy my job very much. Because every time the treatment is successful, their tears of happiness make me very happy for the couple. It gives a lot of meanings and values to my job as a doctor." Gideon said after he successfully treated a Kunming woman with fertility problem.

In the U.K., Gideon and his wife, an eldest son, and a twin, peacefully lived in Cambridge shire of London. Except for normal works in Bourn Hall, Gideon had time to accompany wife and children, and do some exercises after work normally.

However, after settling in Kunming for work, Gideon could not accompany wife and children, and just works in the hospital in the day time every day, and learns Chinese in the evening after his work.

In Kunming, Gideon's attitude to patients is so mild and patient that many local patients especially sick women were moved by his such action. A woman, aged 40, met Gideon in the hospital only for the first time, cannot help herself coming to the hospital two days after a face-to-face diagnosis, to thank Gideon for his effective help.

The women, surnamed Jia, said: "Before meeting Gideon, I have been to many hospitals to find solutions to treat my fertility problem in Kunming. However, I was unlucky to find the best way to solve. After meeting Gideon, the doctor having the best medical skill in the world, I believe I could solve my problem in the end. Thank one of my friends who introduced me to come to the hospital. And thank Gideon for his carefulness and patience to me. " The woman thought that she was deeply moved by Gideon's professionalism and kindheartedness.

Besides, Gideon's Kunming colleagues also highly praised Gideon's superb medical technology. "We learned ways from Bourn Hall Clinic to soothe patients' aches when collecting ova from women. For the clinic owns 38 years' experience. " Doctor Chen Yunyan said.

"Gideon asked us to put sterile cloth or towel for each patient before she receives a B-ultrasonic examination or has an operation. It is a decent way to respect each patient's privacy that we should pay attention to. We also learned from Gideon that to tell each patient each link of operation to let her know the whole operation procedure. "Doctor Huang Rongfang said.

Doctor Lin Song said: "Gideon made a good example for me to know that a qualified doctor had better have a wide range of knowledge. Gideon not only knows knowledge about medicine, but also owns knowledge related to history, geography, nature, humanity, etc.. The more knowledge a doctor has, the better for him to treat patients. "

"He is a real doctor." Not only patients meeting Gideon think of him like this, but also Kunming colleagues around Gideon agree with this saying.

Although Gideon could not get accompaniment from family members in Kunming, he still works diligently and wholeheartedly. In Kunming, Gideon seldom eats authentic British-style foods, and has normal rests in weekends as he did in the U.K..

Gideon explained: "You Chinese people's diligence, modesty, and endeavor attracted me a lot. I like your cartoon movie ‘Lady General Hua Mu-lan' very much. I watched the movie six times"

"I also find that my ancestors have connections to you Chinese people. Some words of our native language are like yours. ‘Baie', ‘ai', are words in our language that owns almost same meanings to your Chinese language." Gideon told that he grew up in South Africa, but aged people of his family was from Netherlands. He owned British nationality because of his job as a doctor.

"When I was a child, my dad came to Kunming to do geological surveys in Stone Forest, which is not very far from Kunming. My dad's experience in Kunming gave me impression that Kunming and Yunnan is a very magical and mysterious place that fascinates me. "Gideon noted his initial link to Kunming and Yunnan.

What's more, Gideon thinks that the biggest return and benefit to him is that the entire reproductive technology of Kunming City Maternal and Child Health Hospital could be enhanced, and local patients of Kunming city could feel a real doctor's kindness at the time he stays in Kunming.
