[InKunming--Yunnan] Technology developed in Yunnan that aids the growth of rice has been widely applied in South and Southeast Asia, according to a news conference on the province's technology achievements of rice growing.
Long Jiang, head of the Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department, said that the strains of rice developed in the province have been grown in Vietnam, Pakistan and Bangladesh, among others.
Long revealed that Yunnan province helped set up agricultural technology demonstration bases in countries in South and Southeast Asia by sending more than 1,000 technicians to help locals grow rice.
Statistics show that rice species developed in Yunnan have been applied on 3.67 million square meters of land in South and Southeast Asia. The new strains of rice and related technology are estimated to have increased production by 2 billion kilograms – a monetary value of 6 billion yuan ($911.95 million).
