[InKunming--Yunnan] Night of Shangri-La, a performance event by Yunnan artists, was recently staged in London, ynci.cn reported.
The group of artists, named Shangri-La, was popular among London audiences. The group was founded in 2005 and has performed in major international cultural exchange activities.
The audiences were impressed with the dances as well as the unique costumes of the artists.
"Thanks to the performance, now I have a deeper understanding of the folk culture of China," said Ansel, an audience member.
The performance was cosponsored by the Yunnan Provincial Government Press Office, with the aim of presenting a prosperous and beautiful Yunnan to London friends. It also hoped to deepen exchanges and understanding between the people of both countries.
As early as 1933, a famous novel called Lost Horizon by James Hilton depicted an Arcadia, or Shangri-La, to the British people. Eighty years later, performers from Shangri-La have now visited London and enhanced connection with the British people by their singing and dancing. Major media in both China and abroad covered the event, including the BBC, Reuters, CCTV, CRI and Phoenix Television.
