[InKunming--Yunnan] A vast quantity of smuggled frozen meat valued at more than 5 million yuan ($800,000) has been seized in the city of Pu'er in Southwest China's Yunnan province, according to local officials.
A total of 330 tons of smuggled frozen meat was recovered from 11 transport vehicles.
In the early hours of June 26, officials seized 30 tons of illegal frozen tripe from a transport vehicle heading from Lancang county to the capital of Yunnan province in Kunming. Through further investigations, the authority received a tip off that another 10 transport vehicles were also at large. At 10:30 am on June 26, another 10 suspicious transport vehicles with illegal frozen meat such as beef and chicken claws were seized.
Further investigation revealed that the seized frozen meat entered China without going through legitimate legal procedures.Edited by Jacob Hooson
