[InKunming--Yunnan] There was an unveiling ceremony at Yunnan University, in the city of Kunming, Yunnan province, on June 16, for a bronze statue of India's famous poet Rabindranath Tagore, which the Indian government gave the school as a gift to symbolize the cooperation with Yunnan in culture and education.
The ceremony at the school's library coincided with two important events, the 3rd China-South Asia Expo and the 23rd China Kunming Import and Export Fair that took place in the city, June 12 - 16.
Rabindranath Tagore was also a litterateur, social activist, and the first Asian to win a Nobel Prize for literature. He died in August 1941 and Yunnan University held a memorial to express their deep respect for him, joining with Academia Sinica, the Culture Movement Committee, National Central University, Southwest Associated University, China India Institute, and the Chinese Philosophical Association.
