[InKunming--New Kunming Construction] The total area of wetlands in Yunnan province has reached 560,350 hectares, according to a survery result published by Yunnan Provinvial Forestry Department on July 7.
The department carried out a survey on wetlands in the whole province from 2012, and finished the survey in 2013. It is the second time that the department began such kind of survey.
According to the survey, Pu'er city owns the biggest area of wetlands in Yunnan province, reaching 69,278.89 hectares. Kunming ranks the second in the ranking, covering 60,455.52 hectares, standing one rank before Dali prefecture, which occupies 59,639.14 hectares.
Area of natural wetlands in Kunming is placed the first in the ranking, containing 46,237.33 hectares in the province.
In the whole province, 25% of natural wetlands were heavily polluted, and seemed hard to be managed. Considering this kind of situation, Yunnan Forestry Department intends to improve protection rate of natural wetlands to 45% by the year of 2020.
