Lavender to fully bloom during Dragon Boat Festival in Jiaoye Park

[InKunming--Travel Tips]  Along with Dragon Boat Festival holiday approaching, lavender in Jiaoye Park (郊野公园) of Kunming usher in their full blossom recently.

Dragon Boat Festival, which occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of traditional Chinese calendar, has been celebrated in China for centuries. This year, the festival falls on June 2 in Gregorian calendar.

The Dragon Boat Festival holiday will last for 3 days this year, which is from May 31 to June 2. The most popular celebrations of the festival involve eating zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), drinking realgar wine (雄黃酒), and racing dragon boats.

For local residents, admiring beautiful lavender flower sea in Jiaoye Park would be a great choice.

Jiaoye Park has planted lavender in 3 places of the park, which cover an area of 6,000 square meters. This year, the park introduced new species of lavender and expanded lavender’s planting acreage, in order to provide a more romantic atmosphere for visitors. Comparing with last year, this year’s lavender will be more colorful.

Besides admiring lavender, visitors are also available to enjoy self-barbecues, cycling, driving four-wheeled motorcycles, etc, in the park.

Jiaoye Park is the biggest park in sub-urban Kunming, which covers an area of 180 hectares. It is located in western suburbs of Kunming, and is not far away from Qipan Mountain and QiongzhuTemple.

Intended visitors can take buses to West Bus Station, and then transfer shuttle buses that head for Jiaoye Park.
