[InKunming--Travel Culture--Attractions] With profound historic and cultural background, Yunnanyi Village deserves its crown of Chinese Traditional Village.
The village was firstly included into the territory of the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-A.D. 24) as the capital of Yunnan County in 109 B.C. From then on, "Yunnan" has been officially used as the name of the province.
"Yi" literally means courier stations in Chinese. In accord with its name, Yunnanyi Village was an important courier station on the Horse and Tea Trading Route. The village reached its prosperity in Ming(1368 A.D.-1644 A.D.) and Qing(1636 A.D.- 1912A.D.) Dynasties.
During the World War II(1939 A.D.-1945 A.D.), Yunnanyi Village was a significant military base of the Sino-Myanmar battlefield, as well as a crucial air transport hub in the famous Hump Flight Course. At that time, the busy village was crowned as "Miniature of Hong Kong".
Up to today, flight runway built 60 years ago is still well-reserved at Yunnanyi Airport. And a 1.8-meter-long stone pathway and some traditional dwellings along roadsides also remain through the change of time.
It is said that local government is to integrate the village's historic and cultural advantages, so as to design Yunnanyi Village into a tourist-friendly destination in the future.
