[InKunming--Interviews Polls] "British Literature Day", mainly sponsored by the British Consulate-General in Chongqing, was launched in Kunming on March 14 as a warm-up event for "British Week in Kunming" that will be formally held in April.
Bidisha Mamata, who is a well-known writer, broadcaster and human activist specializing in gender issues, social justice and international affairs in British, was invited to give a speech.
During the speech, she discussed about new media, digital publishing, and journalists' orientation in the wave of social media revolution, etc.
Bidisha said: "To journalists, media revolution in modern time is both a challenge and an opportunity. As to the opportunity, journalists' coverage is more easily to arouse other people's attention from all over the world under the background of interconnection and intercommunication in this society."
In the mean time, she also suggested journalists to ponder in a critical way in their coverage. Journalists are no longer the first discovers for pieces of news, for each civilian can record the truth of news by taking his smart phone. "Under such circumstance, journalists shall guide public opinions by writing their critical reports." Bidisha mentioned.
Tina Redshaw, the consul-general of the British Consulate-General in Chongqing, gave her comment on the "British Literature Day" event that was held for the first time in Kunming. "We are purposed to deepen cooperation between Kunming and the U.K. in all-round fields including culture, education, originality, and trade, etc. We hope to promote our advanced experiences in above mentioned fields, and also wish Kunming could upgrade its international influence by organizing this kind of events." Tina said.
Bidisha Mamata expressed that she hoped the "British Literature Day" can make more Chinese youths to comprehend Britain and British culture. She also welcomes Kunming's students actively go to the U.K. for further study.
