Kunming Camellia Festival 2014 is to be held from January 20 to February 20.
A series of activities are expected to be launched, offering another choice for local residents to celebrate the forthcoming Chinese Spring Festival(from January 31 to February 6) and the Lantern Festival(on February 14).
Sponsored by the government of the city, the festival is meant to enrich local residents' cultural lives, and to promote the world famous tourist city construction of Kunming.
Its opening ceremony will be held in the French-featured street of Panlong District on January 20.
During the one-month festival, about 900 kinds of camellia will be exhibited outdoor in the Tea Garden of Jindian Park(金殿公园), including 200 kinds of indigenous species in Yunnan and around 700 kinds of exotic species that were introduced from foreign countries and other regions in China.
Residents, enterprises, and institutions are also encouraged to exhibit their camellias in Jindian Park.
Apart from camellias, others kinds of flowers will also be on display in ten parks in Kunming during the festival, including the Kunming Botanical Garden, Heilongtan Garden(黑龙潭公园), Daguan Park(大观公园), Tanhuasi Garden(昙华寺公园), Suburban Park, Xihua Park(西华公园), etc. Activities such as lantern show, intangible cultures exhibition and performances covering sing, dance and opera will also be presented to residents during the camellia festival.
