Born in 1944 in New York, America, Robert Charles Detrano is 69 years old now. He is a prominent cardiologist in America, as well as a senior professor in the branch school of UC(University of California) in Los Angeles.

Detrano traveled in Yunnan in 2005. He was greatly touched by the simple and rustic customs in rural Yunnan. Six years ago, Detrano gave up his superior living conditions in America, and came to Yunnan alone.

For the past 6 years, Detrano has been insisting on doing unpaid examines and treatments for people in rural Yunnan. He also trains rural doctors. Up to now, he has opened over 20 terms of training classes. Detrano and his team have examined over ten thousand children, more than 200 of who suffered from congenital heart diseases.

Detrano feels relieved whenever he cures a child:"this at least means that the child would have a chance to possess a full life."

Detrano has helped over 100 congenital heart-disease-attacked children received free-paid surgeries in impoverished rural areas in Yunnan. His footprints cover a lot of rural districts including Baoshan City, Lijiang City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Diqin Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

On this China's National Day, Detrano and 10 children who were successfully cured went to Beijing, and watched the flag-raising ceremony at Tian'anmen Square.

Detrano said: "I am 69 years old now. I may retire in 3 years. Now, my biggest aspiration is to find a successor. I need an industrious assistant who does not care about fame and money. I will teach him/her everything, only hope that he/she can take over my job." (Editors: Tracy, Lynn)
