Bicycle riding is not allowed on the section from Gaoyao to Nie’er Tomb, covering 6 kilometers, in Kunming’s Western Mountain Scenic Spot from 8 o’clock to 19 o’clock starting from September 10, 2013.
According to the Administrative Committee of the scenic spot, as the road is curve and the slopes are steep, it may possibly cause accidents. The new rule is also for the sake of the walking tourists.
Zhang rides to the mountain regularly via the 6-kilometer road. "There are two more roads to the top of Xishan(Western Mountain), but are not perfect for riding. I like bicycling from this road." He said that he will detour the road connecting Xiahuashao Village to Maomaoqing Village which lies on the mountain, if the main road to the mountain is not open for bikes.
The main road will be for tourist buses and tourists only then. Anyone who breaks the rule will be financially fined.
"We had no choice to make this rule, but have to when taking tourists’ safety into account." said Lu Liping (陆李平), deputy director of the Administrative Committee of Xishan Scenic Spot. (Editors:Tracy, Lynn)
