A skatepark ran by an American was officially opened on May 10th this year in Jinding Science Park(金鼎科技园) , Wuhua District of Kunming. According to Mai Jianming(麦建明), the general manager of the skatepark, the expertise of the skate park ranks first in Southwest China, and is in the second place throughout the county. It charges for 30 yuan for 4 hours.
The skatepark is located in Jinding Science Park. Professional skateboards and well-equipped skatepark, which look like the 789 Cultural Highland in Beijing, really made an impression to people. Community residents can enjoy exciting skateboard performances there.
Mai Jianming is an American living in Kunming and speaks Chinese fluently. He came to Yunnan 15 years ago and has lived in Kunming for 11 years. Mai and his friends opened a consulting company before, which was engaging in consulting and training in sports, cultures, tourism, and English learning.
According to Mai, almost every city with a population of over 50,000 in his hometown and some European countries has a professional skatepark. However, Kunming does not have such a skatepark. He feels pity when seeing the children in Kunming be occupied with learning and playing computers every day.
“In fact, many young people are keen on skateboards in Kunming. What we are going to do is providing such a platform for them.” Mai said.
The skatepark has undertaken many skateboard competitions up to now. A skateboard competition will be held in Mai’s skatepark on August 16th. Residents are welcomed to watch the competition.
