Pukeko, or Purple Swamphen, is hailed as the most beautiful waterfowl on the earth. Rare in China, but it can be seen in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Fujian provinces.

The chicken-sized bird, with its large feet, bright plumage and red bill is seen near Dianchi Lake, the biggest lake in Yunnan.
