A temple fair will be held at the Guandu Ancient Town in Kunming on March 30 and will last for three days.

It is a traditional practice for people living in and around Kunming to pray at the Tuzhu (the Earth God) temple (土主庙) in the ancient town on the 29 of the 2nd lunar month every year. Built in Tang Dynasty, the temple is one of the oldest temples in Kunming.

The 3-day temple fair will showcase lots of folk performances, including dragon and lion dances, walking on stilts, Yunnan opera. Shaolin kung fu will be presented too. In addition, visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy local snacks.

Temple fair, also known as Miaohui, is a Chinese cultural gathering traditionally adjacent to temples in modern times. It is usually held around the time of the Chinese New Year. Activities usually include worshiping deities, entertainment and shopping. (Editor: Hyesung)
