December 8 is an uncommon day for Yi people in Yunnan. About 3,000 Yi people, in ethnic costumes, sing and dance on a street banquet in Chuxiong City, celebrating their new year.
The street banquet, 500 meters in length and 30 meters in wide, is a tradition for Yi people to enjoy a feast in October of the Chinese lunar calendar when the harvest of crops have been completed. Yi people call it Kusi, a festival for sacrificing and celebration.
