Hekou Yao Autonomous County, known as a junction of the red River and Nanxi River, is at the border of China and Vietnam on the south of Yunnan province. With the lowest elevation of 76.4 meters, it is also the lowest place among Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces. It links Lao Cai of Vietnam with China, with the Red River passing through two countries.

The county is fruitful all the year round because it faces river and has mountains on the back. It is also a city with beautiful sub-tropical and tropical sceneries. The summer time in the city is comparatively long. With high humidity, it boasts its landscape of tropical rain forests which are rich in animal and plant resources on both sides of Nanxi River.

How to get there:

Hekou is 429 kilometers from Kunming. You can take a bus there near the Kunming Railway Station which takes up to 80 yuan.

Food:

Vietnamese Xiaojuanfen or noodle-like food made of rice milk with meat and dried mushroom in it is a delicacy in the county. Hekou connects Vietnam with the Red River, resulting in the mutual-affected life style. You can taste many kinds of food from Vietnam without getting a visa to the country.
