The southern section of Kunming's first-phase metro line 1 and 2 will be put into use by the end of this year, and the northern part is expected to start trial in the first half of next year, according to the Kunming Rail Transit Co.,Ltd.
The first phase of metro line 1 and 2, covering a total of 42 kilometers, is expected to run for about 40 to 50 minutes in a single trip from the Northern Passengers Station to the Yunnan Radio and Television University in the south. Thirty-one stops have been built the metro line, including 6 evaluated and 25 underground stations. So far, the main structures of the 31 stations of Line 1 and Line 2 have been completed.
The southern section stretches 22 kilometers, with 12 stations set between the Xiaodong Village station and the Tuofeng Street station in university town of Chenggong New Town. Moreover, 22 operators will be arranged at each station. And the departure interval of subway trains on the section may be cut to 2 minutes during rush hours.
With the construction of pipelines and the removal of the Wujiaba Airport, the northern section is going to be completed in January of 2013, said Wang Zhong, director of the Communication and Transportation bureau of Kunming.
Subway trains on the new metro line that crosses the downtown areas of Kunming will reach a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour, and are capable of carrying 1870 passengers. Twenty trains are scheduled to be adopted.
