Nanxi Village, about 24 kilometers from the Lijiang Ancient Town, is a Naxi village with the highest elevation and unique geographic location on the land of Lijiang. It has been enjoying a good reputation of "the miniature of Shangri-la".
Seasons from June to September encounter with the rainy season in Lijiang, and it is also a flower blooming season on the high land. Potato flowers, cole flowers, azalea and some unnamed wild flowers scatter on a plat land of 3,200-meter hight. There is a neglected Naxi Village--Naxi Village deep in the mountain.
As said by people, Nanxi used to be a horse ranch of a well-known chieftain whose family name is Mu. Tourist can ride on horses, galloping in the sea of flowers. In this season, some tourists travel around there, especially on the sunny weekends. Residents living in the urban area usually spend their holidays here.
The family name of most villagers is He. It is said that people here are decedents of an orphan from Tai'an Town. Some senior people also said their ancestors moved from Jingde Town in east China's Jiangxi Province affected by wars at that time. Thus, here live many ethnic groups.
About 300 people out of 358 households engage in taxi. A taxi driver in this village said: "I often introduce my hometown to tourists and take them here for free. Though it may waste a day to earn money, it is worthing to let more people know about it."
