Twenty public bikes in front of the gate of Milesi Park have been coated in dust because of being left unused for a long time, the reporter noticed recently.
It is said that the project of public bike is being examined and the two renting sites in Milesi Park are set as examples to let residents learn about public bikes. However, as the project has not been approved, these bikes can only be parked here. And nobody knows how to use them. Most of residents think that this is a waste of public resources and they hope the problem can be solved so that these bikes won't be damaged due to being left unused for a long period.
According to a person who is in charge of Kunming public bike projet, there are difficulties in promoting, among which the biggest one is the limited road resource of Kunming. Public bike sites will occupy part of road resource, which is quite unpractical for Kunming at the present stage. Moreover, the establishment of renting sites requires coordination between several relevant departments, such as urban planning, urban management and transportation. Now the promoting work is still ongoing. This staff also disclosed that this project was expected to be launched in Chenggong District firstly within this year. And 20 sites will be set around university town mainly. Although many difficulties exist in the process of implementation, this project will not be stopped and residents will use convenient public bikes as soon as possible.
