As a distant county in Yunnan, Tengchong is well-known for its wetlands and hot springs. Embraced by mountains and streams, it provides visitors with a visual feast of green colors. A mountain, a pool and even a field are green.

Tengchong County is 670 km from Kunming. It is the very southwest place of China and is about 217 km from Myitkyina in Myanmar which is abundant in emerald. It has been a trading center of emerald since the Song (960-1279)and Yuan Dynasty(1271-1368). Tengchong is a city that is closest to the border of Myanmar and is the key thoroughfare of the Silk Road.
