Many people have heard about Lijiang in Yunnan, and maybe some knew Stone City (Shitoucheng) near Lijiang, but few people travel round there. The Stone City in the Baoshan Mountain is "la bo lu pan wu" in Naxi language, and it means the Baishi Village on Baoshan Mountain that is located in a valley about 100 km from Jinsha River, the westernmost of the major headwater streams of the Yangtze River. It is named Stone City as located on a giant stone, in the shape of a mushroom, where about one hundred households live.

Though the Stone City is not far from Lijiang, roads there are rough. Visitors have to walk there on foot to the deep mountain. The village is located on a slope, and alleys range with the lofty myriad mountains. Few roads are flat. Houses are typical ancient buildings of Naxi ethnic group. Seen from the distant location, the layout of the village provides a visual feast to visitors.
