Western Grand Canyon Hot Spring Tourism Area, a national-level 4A tourist scenic spot situated at Shuifu County, Zhaotong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, is the largest outdoor hot spring area in Asia.
In 1999, the tourism area was built beside the Jinsha River. There were precipitous mountains and unique canyon landscape beside of the area, from where the name "Grand Canyon" originated. It is known as a "bright pearl" on southwestern tourist lines. Due to the construction of Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station, the area was moved to the top of a mountain in 2005 and put into trial in September 2007. The reconstruction of it was completed in 2010.
The rebuilt tourism area covers an area of over 1,100,000 ㎡, including 1,000 parking lots and outdoor spa pools which accommodate up to more than 5,000 visitors. There are over 30 kinds of spa pools, with milk, coffee, petals or vinegar inside. Natural grotesque stones and Yunnan-style buildings stand by the sides of the spa pools. Other supporting facilities have also been built, including sports, shopping, performing, conference and dining centers.
