Dashanbao Black-necked Crane Nature Reserve, situated in Dashanbao Township, Zhaoyang District , Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, is a typical subtropical plateau meadows scenic area.
With the highest altitude of 3,364 meters, Dashanbao covers an area of 192 square km. It is a national-level nature reserve, and also an international important wetland.
In recent years, tourists, scientific researchers and explorers to Dashanbao have gradually increased, helping raise its public awareness.
Dashanbao includes two major scenic spots: Dahaizi Wetland and Jigong Mountain.
Every year, large numbers of black-necked cranes migrate to Dahaizi Wetland from Tibet Plateau in the end of October, and leave in April the next year. In 2003, Dashanbao was listed in national-level nature reserve, to better protect the rare animals. In winter, black-necked cranes "dance" on the wetland, leaving deep impressions on tourists' minds.
Jigong Mountain shapes like a head of a cook , from where the name "Jigong" originated. Jigongshan Grand Valley, a proper area to watch clouds and sunset, is majestic, unique and precipitous.
Tips:
I. Dashanbao is opened all day free of charge.
II. Trains, buses and planes are optional ways from Kunming to Zhaotong. There are several trains from Kunming to Zhaotong. At least, the train journey is about 9 hours. Via expressway, Zhaotong City is about 350 km away from Kunming. The flight time is about 1 hour.
III. Dashanbao is about 80 km away from the seat of Zhaotong. There are regular buses.
IV. It is more convenient to take a self-driving tour to Dashanbao.
