How to make Paoluda---a Yunnan-style cold sweet drink

Paoluda is usually served in mugs

It is said that Paoluda (泡鲁达) was originated from Thailand. After being spreaded to Yunnan, it gradually adapts to the local market and becomes a quite popular drink. Usually you can find Paoluda in Dai restaurants and local drink shops in Kunming. Here we will teach you how to make a cup of Paoluda by yourself.

Ingredients:

Milk (200 ml)

1/4 baguette (Vietnam hardshell bread will be better)

Sago (10 g)

Sugar (15 g)

Some coconut shreds

Condensed milk (30 ml)

Method:

1. Throw sago into a pot of boiling water, then reduce heat to medium-low and stir sago every 15 seconds.

2. About ten minutes later, when sago becomes bigger and transparent, turn off heat and put sago into cold water.

3. Place milk on fire and throw sugar into it, then heat the milk till sugar melted; cool the milk

4. Get a mug and put sago, some ice, cool milk, coconut shreds and condensed milk into it. Stir. Then throw in several pieces of baguette. Enjoy!

Tips:

1. The amount of coconut shreds and condensed milk can be reduced or increased according to your personal preference.

2. If you want to have the most authentic Paoluda, the best place for you is Mangshi (芒市). Traffic from Kunming to Mangshi is quite convenient. Both plane and bus can take you there. (Editors: Annie Kwok, Minnie Mao)
