Let's go pick cherries in Fumin County, Kunming

Cherries are ripe in Chijiu (赤鹫)Town, Fumin County, Kunming. Besides the fruit, there are many delicious local foods.

Chijiu Town, about 20 km away from the north of Fumin County, was named the national ecological town in 2011. Since the early 1990s, cherries have been cultivated there. Now, its planting area has reached 2,800 mu, being the largest one in Kunming. The cherries are juicy and sweet.There are 12 cherry orchards in the town. In Zumili(咀咪哩) Hamlet, an orchard has reached 300 mu.

A local farmer, Du said, “In former years, most of the cherries were picked by tourists of Kunming in his orchard, so he rarely sold in markets. Recently, more and more people have come to his orchard. I have to go and pick cherries around 8:00am.” Due to the drought, premature drop is more serious than last year, but the fruit is sweeter.

There are other delicious foods in the town, including: truffles, ecological fishes, bean curd with blood, native chickens and local bacon. Moreover, a “township street” is staged on monthly 1st, 4th and 7th, where native chicken, fresh vegetables and eggs are sold. (Editor:Tina He, Minnie Mao)
