If you get bored of the long journey to Lijiang and Dali, you can choose to wonder around in Chengjiang County which is seventy km from the downtown of Kunming. Chengjiang is well-known for its Fuxian Lake which spans an area of 212 square kilometers and stretches trough Chengjiang County, Jiangchuan County and Huaning County in Yunnan Province. The lake is ranked third largest in Yunnan, right after the Dianchi Lake and the Erhai Lake. The deepest part of the lake descends 157 meters, the second deepest freshwater lake in China.
The first impression for those who have been Fuxian Lake is clearness of the water. The assembling of raindrops and great numbers of underground springs has supplied Fuxian Lake with continuous water resource.
How to get there: Take the buses from Kunming to Chengjiang. It takes about one hour.
Tips: The delicious local foods in Chengjiang County include the lotus roots, fish produced in Fuixian Lake, and the stewed yam and rice. When making fish dish, the fishermen usually put some spring water into a copper pot and cook the fish for about 10 minutes and put some spices into it. The dish is very fresh and tasty.
