Yubeng Village is located in Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan. The melt water from the snow mountain converges into Yubeng River, dividing the village into two parts.

Situated on the plateau, it is embraced by Meri (or Meili) Snow Mountain. Luxuriant woods and smoke from the kitchen chimney are wreathing over the cottages. The uncanny workmanship of the nature has turned the village into an epitome of Shangri-la. The fine sceneries and pure folk custom formed it a land of idyllic beauty that people are yearning for.

Yubeng is a must-go place for the Tibetan circumanbulators on Meri Snow Mountain. There is no wonder that Tibetans regard it as a waterfall endowed by deity. Splendid, it erects from the earth and seems to rush to the vault of heaven. As a cliff between the snow mountain and green lands, it looks like an insurmountable screen between the heaven and the earth.

Owing to the absence of road for vehicles to Yubeng, the only transportation is hinny. Entering from the Xidang Village (西当村) near the Lantsang River, tourists need to mount Nanzong Bealock (南宗垭口), 3,700 meters in height.

There is a story about the village. A senior man always borrowed grains in Xidang Village, but no villagers knew where he came from. Thus, somebody traced after him, but he disappeared after a short distance. Someone came up with an idea to follow him. Villagers lent him rice and poked a hole on the sack, and in this way, they followed him to a giant stone with the guidance of rice leaking from the sack. It was weird, so they lifted the stone and continued looking for him. Finally they found a village, and this was how Yubeng Village was found by people. With special geographic location, there are few inhabitants round the place and there is just one courier route connecting the outside world.

Travel tips:

1. You can take a flight to Kunming and transfer buses to Zhongdian County. Buses to Zhongdian are dispatched everyday.

2. It is 12 km upslope from Xidang Village to Nanzong Bealock by foot. You can pay for a hinny and the fee is about RMB 155.
