The construction of the Lugu Lake Airport has accelerated and is expected to be open to navigation by next year.

The airport highway and other infrastructures are already complete. The Airport lies 25 kilometers away from the Lugu Lake scenic spot and 50 kilometers from the Ninglang County site. It is built in 4C standard and is able to accommodate airplanes below the Boeing 737. It has facilities to handle a projected capacity of 450,000 passengers per year in the interim period. The commencement of voyages will begin in 2013 and the Airport will then be connected with the Kunming Airport.

The Lugu Lake is located at the border area of the junction of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces and is called "the mysterious women kingdom of the East". In recent years, the Lake has become popular among tourists but does not have the appropriate traffic infrastructure to accommodate them.

The local government has taken a series of measures to preserve the ecology of the Lake and its Mosuo culture. As a result, the Lake's water quality continues to be first class and its transparency amounts to 10 meters. After the Lugu Lake Airport is completed, traveling and vacationing there will be much easier.
