Lingguang Street, last remaining old street in Kunming

There is an old street, Lingguang Street, which is only 300 meters left over in the flourishing city, the last remaining old street in Kunming, recoding the old stories of Kunming.

Walking into Lingguang Street, the memories of ancient Kunming is brought back, low tile-roofed houses, old doors and widows, which arise waves of nostalgia. The street is quiet and peaceful during the spring.People walk on the street leisurely, and some inhabitants sit on the street, enjoying the sunshine.

The street was built more than 300 years ago,in the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty. According to the legend, the street got its name from "Lingguang Temple".Now, the temple has long ceased to exist.Under the setting sun, the street, which looks like an elderly person with scars, tell its own old story to surrounding towers.

On the street, the shops are old but flourishing. Most of the original shops’ owners have rent them out, and do not live there any more.Deep in the narrow corridors and courtyards, you can find the most typical houses of Kunming in ancient time. They are the last remaining old buildings in the city, where people still live simple lives.

In 2009,the former dusky houses were all painted in vermillion, parts of the street were rebuilt. Now, the street looks new, with simplicity and elegance.Everyday from dawn to dark, lots of people and vehicles crowd in the street. The leisurely pace of life that once was a feature of Kunming is slipping away.(Editor:Tina He)
