Connecting Bise Village, Jijie Town in Xundian County, Shiping County and Gejiu City in Yunnan, construction of Gebishi Railway was launched in May, 1915. After 21-year construction, it was open to traffic in 1936. Maybe it is the railway which had cost the longest construction time in Chinese history. With the overall length of 177 km, it is the earliest private railway in China.
Gejiu was well-known as a stannum-rich county. Dating back to Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-A.D. 24), it was the largest processing base of stannum in China. Nearly 10 years ahead of the construction of Yunnan—Vietnam Railway, several French traders had explored the stannary in Geju. In order to avoid the plunder of stannary by foreigners, people in Yunnan made their minds to build their own railway.
Xianghuiqiao Railway Station is one of the stations erecting on this line. The construction style of the railway is combined Chinese style with French style. Though the station is invalidated now, the unbroken track and buildings in those years have been well preserved.
