The 2011 Car Free Day for China’s Cities will be launched in more than 100 cities in the morning of September 22, Kunming included.

The day is encouraging residents to leave their cars at home, and to use public transport or to cycle instead.

Besides, residents who riding bike into motor vehicle driving ban areas will get some awards.

Except bicycles, buses, taxis and special cars (e.g. ambulances, fire fighting vehicles, police cars, etc.), all the other vehicles are forbidden to enter into the affected areas.

Driving ban on -Thursday (September 22, 2011) between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm

Area affected - Cuihu area

September 22 is the World Car-Free Day, an annual celebration of cities and public life, free from the noise, stress and pollution of cars.

It takes place every year and aims to get people thinking about their car use and its impact on the natural environment, as well as promoting alternatives. (Editor: Ryan Li)
